Day 05 - A book or series you hate

About half of the Chronicles of Narnia. The other half I adore. I generally hate the ones where Aslan acts like a deus ex machina and makes me feel like I wasted my time reading the story. (I'm looking at you The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.) I really liked the ones with Eustace Scrubb oddly enough. He actually felt like he had a personality compared to the Pevensies (even if the personality was huge jerk). I also liked The Horse and His Boy but there's one part I can't stand (spoilers )). TBH, I have no clue how this book rates on the offensiveness or not (it was written in the '50s) about the Middle East, since I read this book at 12 and I was pretty ignorant then.

I also did not like Neil Gaiman's Stardust. I wanted to but I pretty much knew the ending from the get go and really did not care about anything or anyone. I hated the protagonist and really did not care if he got laid or not. I was actually kind of hoping the lady protag. would kick him in the nuts and have awesome adventures on her own. But it was not to be. To be honest, I feel like the side stories and characters had potential, but I honestly can't remember what happened about that stuff.

I've actually read a few stories like this but can't remember any of the titles so here's a description. Any fantasy adventure book that has the first hundred pages of the hero putzing around his/her hometown. And it has zero plot relevance once the hero leaves. Like it doesn't even build character or anything other than the protag. has the hots for some character or is bored with their dung ages peasant life. I mean, you could just put in some throw away sentences about this part since its so stock and it'll save us all the boredom.
