Steampunk/Fantasy outside of the Western Europe mold/Awesome Lady Leads

As for recs~

Steampunk & Awesome Lady Leads: Larklight Trilogy/Arcadia Snips and the Steamwork Consortium. I've gabbed lots about them in past meme posts.

Fantasy Outside Disney-Europe Model: The only one I can remember is The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N.K. Jemisin. To be honest this entire book is a big step away from the standard fantasy fare as its a big deconstruction of the 'what happens when a small time person suddenly becomes an heir to the big empire's throne' along with introspective stuff like the difference between gods and humans and the lady protag's mommy issues. IDK, I like it but I can see why others wouldn't so just putting it out there for those who may be interested.

No wait, there's The Silver Phoenix by Cindy Pon which is basically fun/cheesy Wuxia.

And those two books also have awesome lady leads.

Day 11 - Favorite mecha series



Cheap answer I know, but this is pretty much a love letter to the early mecha I grew up with. To me it epitomizes them all, lovingly snarking and adding its own spin to the genre (though this show can be very sad and srs). Also deconstruction in some respects.

Coming in a very close second is Gunbuster. Old school yet still awesome. Ladies kicking ass and forming super tight bonds.

One of the funniest vampire slayings I've read. Which means a lot as I generally am not a fan of the vampire/werewolf mythos.

This kissing in Birdy the Mighty Season 2 (too lazy to get a pic). Basically its where you know everything is going to hell. (Actually even the kiss scene in season one is kind of sad. Never kiss in this anime!)

Day 14 - Favorite character in a book (of any sex or gender)

Arcadia Snips

A crazy awesome thief/escape artist, who does what needs to get done, and does it well. Clever, independent, assertive, aggressive and not in an obnoxious way. And while she has daddy issues, she refuses to let them define her. She is just an awesome, well written character that comes off more as a person than not.

Day 5 - Anime character you feel you are most like (or wish you were)

Wish - Squirtle Kamina

Trufax.

I'm rewatching this. In the first few minutes I remember how awesome the art, and how fast paced the series is. I have a short attention span, so shows that jump straight into the action are great. I also like how in under 5 minutes you get a decent grip on Alice's character. That's some good anime.

Also, I love Sheila. I love tightass, srs bsns characters cause I can be that way sometimes. Especially when I was a kid.

I may do a srs bsns, thoughts on yaoi post on this later.
